Can I keep renewing indefinitely?

The “one renewal only” cap applies to language courses. Professional training is a separate category with no such cap. Each renewal does require enrolment in the next qualification step.

What if I missed classes?

The certificado de aprovechamiento includes attendance data. If attendance is poor the school can refuse to issue a positive certificate — and without it you cannot renew. Rule of thumb: keep attendance above 80%.

Online through Mercurio (sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es) with an electronic signature or via a representative (immigration lawyer). In person — via cita previa at extranjería.

How long does the decision take?

Officially up to 3 months. After that the “silencio administrativo positivo” rule applies — silence is treated as a positive decision and you can request a certificado de silencio.

What does the renewal give me?

A renewed TIE for the duration of the new course and legal stay in Spain without leaving. The right to work (RD 1155/2024) is preserved as long as your next course also leads to an official qualification.

Renewing the student card

After the first year of study the card can be renewed, provided you meet the attendance criteria, enrol on the next level and bring an up-to-date pack. For our students it's a natural path: from nivel 2 (HOTR0508) to nivel 3, staying in Spain legally without leaving VERIFY · lawyer.

What a student status via a certificado de profesionalidad unlocks

We are a school, not an immigration agency — so we simply lay out the rules. All three points need a final check with a lawyer before you plan the move.

The right to work

Under RD 1155/2024 (in force since 20 May 2025), students on programmes that lead to an official qualification can combine studies with work — up to 30 hours per week VERIFY · lawyer. HOTR0508 is exactly such a programme.

Renewals without the “one-off” limit

The single-renewal cap on student status applies to language courses. Professional training is a separate category, so this cap does not apply VERIFY · lawyer. Certificate levels (nivel 2 → nivel 3) give a legal path for successive renewals.

A bridge to a work residence permit

Converting a student card into a residence permit with the right to work requires completing professional training or a university degree. HOTR0508 — an official certificado de profesionalidad — is exactly that required step VERIFY · lawyer.

Filing window

Between 60 days before the current card expires and 90 days after. Important nuance: filing after expiry doesn't count towards continuous residence — you formally “drop out” of your status for that period. Aim to file before the TIE expires.

Renewal conditions

· Positive certificado de aprovechamiento from the school (attendance + progress).
· Enrolment in the next course at the same or higher qualification level.
· Financial guarantee: IPREM × number of months of the new course.
· Valid health insurance covering the new period.
· Current padrón (no older than 3 months).

Why: School certificate of attendance and academic progress — the key document. It shows you actually study.

5. Enrolment in the next levelIssued by IEAE
Why: Contract for the next course at the same or higher qualification level. For our students that is the move from nivel 2 to nivel 3.

6. Financial guarantee
Why: Bank statement covering the new period. Same formula: 100% of IPREM × number of months in the renewed course VERIFY · yearly.

7. Health insurance
Why: Renewed or new policy covering the full new period.
Where to get it: Your insurer.
8. Current volante de empadronamiento
Why: Confirms you continue to live in Spain and at a current address.
